Dr. David Cane has consulted in the area of competency-based workplace standards for more than ten years. He has a reputation as a leader in the field, and is an invited speaker on the topic at a national level.

Before starting his consulting career, David was an accomplished educator and administrator, with broad experience in postsecondary education institutions (public and private), the health sector and Aboriginal organizations. His background includes positions as college president, vice-president, dean of health sciences, department chair, faculty member and instructional skills / group facilitator.

For 12 years David was employed in senior executive and chief executive positions, where he administered public-sector budgets in excess of $35 million annually, and was responsible for over 600 employees.

From 1980 until 1998 David represented the Association of Canadian Community Colleges in the governance and operation of the Canadian Medical Association Conjoint Accreditation Service for health professional training. He undertook accreditation surveys, chaired the senior leadership committee for accreditation, and led a task force to re-design the accreditation process towards a more outcomes-based approach.

David is an owning partner in Catalysis Consulting located in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. His work focuses on the development of employment and training standards: occupational analysis; competency development and validation; professional certification; statutory regulation (licensure); labour mobility issues; and program accreditation. David has consulted to diverse groups and organizations, and brings to all his clients flexibility and efficiency, expert analytical and conceptual skills, and outstanding writing and editorial abilities.
